The Cardinal Dearden Lecture honors the late Archbishop of Detroit, John Dearden, who renowned for his work in implementing the teachings of Vatican II in the United States. Its funding was established in 1982 by a group of American bishops who wished to honor Cardinal Dearden‘s erudition, wisdom, and leadership of the Church. This year's speaker is His Excellency Archbishop Christophe Pierre.

His Excellency Archbishop Pierre has served as the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States since 2016. Born in France, he was ordained a priest in 1970 and consecrated as an archbishop in 1995. Prior to his appointment as the Nuncio to the United States, he served in various diplomatic roles in countries such as Mexico, Haiti, and Uganda. He is known for his commitment to interfaith dialogue and has actively promoted ecumenical efforts throughout his career.
