A few of the largest scientific societies include a wide range of different fields. Their websites typically include educational resources and news of recent developments in the sciences.
- The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the largest professional association of scientists and is administering the “Science for Seminaries” grant.
- The AAAS website includes a “news” link with recent developments in the sciences. The AAAS publishes four journals, the most accessible of which is Science. Science and Science Advances are available online to Catholic University students and faculty. Go to the list of ejournals, search the title, click the link to the database with access to the current issue, and enter your library account credentials. Access to Scientific American and Nature are also available.
- National Science Foundation (NSF) funds about a quarter of all federally funded scientific research.
- The NSF also hosts a website for researchers that includes summaries of recent projects.
- Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) is the journal of the NAS that publishes peer-reviewed articles in multiple scientific fields. The articles are available on their website in multiple formats, and one can browse by topic. The “News and Multimedia” section provides content that is typically more accessible than the professional articles.
- The Public Library of Science (PLOS) is a non-profit publisher of science journals that are freely available online. The site also links to a blog network.
- Science.gov is a gateway to science information with links to over 2200 websites and 60 databases. The index is useful and leads to further online resources for many areas of science.
