    Charlie Camosy teaches moral theology and bioethics in the School of Theology and Religious Studies at the Catholic University of America. Previously, he taught at the Creighton School of Medicine, St. Joseph Seminary (New York), Christ Church Oxford, Fordham University, and the University of Notre Dame. His PhD in moral theology was completed at Notre Dame in 2008, where he defended his dissertation with honors.

    Among many other venues, his articles have appeared in the American Journal of Bioethics, Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, Linacre Quarterly, Ethics and Medics, The Atlantic, New York Times, New York Post, America, The Pillar, and Church Life Journal. He has a monthly column with Religion News Service and does regular Q&As for Our Sunday Visitor News.

    Camosy is the author of nine books. Peter Singer and Christian Ethics (Cambridge) was named a 2012 “best book” with ABC Religion and Ethics; Beyond the Abortion Wars (Eerdmans), was a 2015 award-winner with the Catholic Media Association; Resisting Throwaway Culture (New City) was named 2020 “Resource of the Year” by the Catholic Publishers Association. He is also the founding editor of a new book series with New City Press called The Magenta Project.

    In medical and clinical contexts, Camosy has served on many different ethics committees, taught both medical students and nursing students, served as presenter and peer-reviewer for the National Academy of Sciences committee on neural organoids and chimeras, was an observing member of the Uniform Commission’s 2023 special committee on the determination of death, and currently serves as a Catholic mission and identity consultant for the Franciscan Health Alliance.  

    In addition to receiving the 2018 St. Jerome Award for scholarly excellence from the Catholic Library Association and the 2024 Smith Award from the University Faculty for Life, Camosy serves had senior lead for a “Generations in Dialogue” project on transhumanism and the body run through USC’s Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies.
