Dr. Tarmo Toom Presents Paper at North American Patristics Society Conference in Chicago

Dr. Toom presented the paper, "The Creeds of Marcellus of Ancyra and Priscillian of Avila" at the North American Patristics Society (NAPS) Conference in Chicago, May 24. His paper compared the two earliest variants of the declaratory creed which came to be known as the Apostles' Creed with the Old Roman Creed and argued that the authors of these creeds were not modalists.

Dr. Charles B. Jones Presents Paper at Georgetown University

Dr. Jones presented the paper, "The Prospects for Interreligious and Intercultural Understanding: the Jesuit Case and its Theoretical Implications" at the conference "Understanding Religious Pluralism: Perspectives from Theology and Religious Studies" held at Georgetown University Thursday, May 24, 2012.

Professor Brian Johnstone Presents Paper at National Conference on Medicine and Religion

Professor Johnstone presented a paper entitled, "The Origin of the Distinction between Ordinary and Extraordinary Means of Treatment in Catholic Moral Theology and its Contemporary Relevance," at the National Conference on Medicine and Religion, sponsored by the Program on Medicine and Religion at the University of Chicago, May 23-25, 2012.

Dr. John Grabowski Presents Paper at the Academy of Catholic Theology Conference

Dr. Grabowski presented the paper, " And So He Revealed His Glory: Cana and the Sacramentality of Marriage" at the Academy of Catholic Theology Conference, Washington DC, May 23, 2012. The paper sought to show that a balanced theological exegesis of John 2:1-11 confirms the best insights of the Catholic theological tradition: that Christ acts in a transformative way in marriage, conforming the couple to his cross and his own eschatological union with the Church and that this insight protects marriage from reduction to a purely human reality to be reshaped by cultural forces.

Msgr. Irwin Conducts Faculty Seminar in Rome

On Monday May 21st, Msgr. Kevin W. Irwin, conducted a seminar on "Mediated Immediacy: Sacramentality and the Liturgy" for the theology faculty of Santa Croce University in Rome. While in Rome Msgr. Irwin is also consulting with the faculty of the Liturgical Institute at the Ateneo of Sant' Anselmo and the liturgical studies professors at the Gregorian University.

Dr. Wilhelmus Valkenberg and Assistant Dean Karen Korl Participate in Catholic-Sikh Dialogue

Dr. Wilhelmus Valkenberg and Assistant Dean Karen Korol participated in the fourth biennial Catholic-Sikh Dialogue held in Washington, DC,  May 18-20. The Sikh and Catholic delegations explored the Four Levels of Dialogue: theological exchange, religious experience, action and life, as defined in documents promulgated by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.  Dr. Valkenberg presented the Catholic delegation's talk on the Dialogue of Theological Exchange and Dean Korol presented the Catholic delegation's talk on the Dialogue of Life.

Dr. Miller Publishes New Edition of Chieftains

STRS Associate Professor Robert Miller's 2004 Chieftains of the Highland Clans: A Social History of Israel in the 12th and 11th Centuries BC , out of print since 2007, has been reprinted by Wipf and Stock Press with a new preface. Dr. Miller's book has become an important part of academic discourse on early Israel over the past decade and was widely acclaimed in scholarly reviews.

STRS acting dean, Fr. Mark Morozowich, presented his paper entitled, "La Storia e L'Interpretazione dell' Orientalium Ecclesiarum" in Rome at the Holy Cross University during their Conference on the Second Vatican Council: The Lasting Value of Reform for the New Evangelization.
