Rev. Regis J. Armstrong Presents Series of Lectures to Capuchin Novices

At the beginning of June, Fr. Regis Armstrong, O.F.M. Cap., presented a series of lectures to the twenty Capuchin novices at San Lorenzo Friary, Santa Ynez, California.  Fr. Regis provided a spirited exploration of the unique insights Bonaventure brought to the Franciscan movement and to Catholic theology, which were of essential importance to the Capuchin reform. Using his soon-to-be-published new translation of Bonaventure's spiritual classic, "Itinerarium Mentis in Deum," Fr. Regis showed that its theological outline is a framework for moving spiritually through all of creation into union with God.

Dr. Robert Miller Presents in Plenary Panel at Orality Conference in Michigan

Dr. Miller served as one of three plenary presenters for the conference "Orality and Literacy X: Tradition, Trasmission and Adaptation" at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, June 27. The plenary panel discussed the current state of scholarship on oral tradition in ancient Israel and in the Old Testament.

Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti Gives Presentation to Bishop and Priests of Diocese of Toledo

Msgr. Rossetti gave a presentation to the bishop and priests of the Diocese of Toledo on June 19th.  He was asked to present his new data on priestly celibacy.  These survey findings indicated that the large majority of priests, about 3/4, have personally found their commitment to celibacy as a grace and they believe it to be a personal calling from God.  Msgr. Rossetti's data indicated that this profound spiritual understanding was a strong predictor of priestly happiness.

Rev. Nicholas Lombardo, O.P. Gives Lectures in Europe and Asia

From late April through mid-June, Fr. Lombardo visited a number of universities in Europe and Asia, including Oxford and Cambridge, the Catholic University of Leuven, Widya Mandala (Surabaya, Indonesia), the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of St Joseph (Macau), Peking University, Fudan University (Shanghai), Sophia University (Tokyo), and the University of Santo Tomas (Manila). He gave lectures on Aquinas and the emotions, the philosophy and theology of boredom, and the crucifixion in patristic theology.

Professor Robert Miller Co-Conducts Ecumenical Workshop for Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston

TRS associate professor, Dr. Miller and Professor Sarah H. Henrich of Luther Seminary conducted the annual week-long (June 18-22) Ecumenical Scripture Workshop sponsored by the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston at the Bishop Hodges Pastoral Center in Huttonsville, WV. Professors Miller and Henrich delivered lectures and led discussions on Creation in the Old and New Testaments. The workshop was directed by Deacon Dennis Nesser, a graduate of the CUA School of Canon Law.

Professor Brian Johnstone Presents Paper at Theology Symposium in Maynooth, Ireland

Professor Johnstone presented the paper, "The Sacraments: Gifts of the Rising Christ" at the Theology Symposium, "The Ecclesiology of Communion Fifty Years after the Opening of Vatican II,"  held at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, Ireland, June 6-9 2012.

Professor William D. Dinges Co-Conducts Conference at Fudan University, Shanghai, China

TRS professor, Dr. Dinges and Professor Kenneth D. Wald of the University of Florida conducted a week-long (May 26-June 3) conference on religion in American culture for the Institute on American Society and Culture (IASC) at the Center for American Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.  Professors Dinges and Wald delivered lectures and led discussions on aspects of religion in America relating to sociological dynamics, immigration, American exceptionalism, political behavior, NGOs, current trends, and other related topics. While visting the She Shan Basilica (Basilica of Our Lady of She Shan) in Shanghai, Professor Dinges met with several resident seminarians and priests, including one who received a graduate degree from CUA.

Professor John T. Ford Publishes Essay

Rev. John T. Ford's essay, "Oberlin 2007: The Need for an Expanded Methodology," was published  in Ecumenical Directions in the United States Today, 380-381, edited by Antonios Kieropoulos with Juliana Mecera, Faith and Order Commission Theological Series, New York/Mawah, NJ: Paulist Press, 2012.
