Rev. Msgr. Robert Trisco Appointed to Historical Commission

Rev. Msgr. Robert Trisco, professor emeritus of church history, has been appointed by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Raleigh, to the three-member Historical Commission for the cause for beatification and canonization of Father Thomas Frederick Price (1860-1919), co-founder of the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America (Maryknoll) and the first native of North Carolina to be ordained a secular priest.

Dr. John Grabowski Gives Presentation

Dr. Grabowski gave a presentation on Wednesday, April 18 to Students on the Mount (CUA Student Social Justice Committee) at the CUA campus.  The presentation entitled, "Just Family: The Unity of Catholic Social and Sexual Teaching explored the false dichotomy between "liberal" (pro-justice) and "conservative" (pro-family) Catholics, given the Catholic understanding of the dignity of the person.

Dr. Robert Miller Publishes New Book on Covenant

STRS Associate Professor Robert Miller's latest book entitled Covenant and Grace in the Old Testament: Assyrian Propaganda and Israelite Faith has been published by Gorgias Press in the Perspectives on Hebrew Scriptures and its Contexts series. This book explains how Israel understood its relationship with Yahweh.

Rev. Nicholas Lombardo, O.P., Gives Presentation at Georgetown

Rev. Nicholas Lombardo, O.P., gave a lecture on "Emotion in the Thought of Thomas Aquinas" on April 17 at Georgetown University. The lecture gave an overview of Aquinas's account of emotion in its historical context, relating Aquinas to other key figures and to recent trends in contemporary analytic philosophy.

Fr. Heil Publishes New Book On the Letter of James

STRS Professor John Paul Heil's new book entitled The Letter of James: Worship to Live By has recently been published by Wipf and Stock in the Cascade Books series. This book proposes a new and comprehensive chiastic structure as well as a new unifying theme for the letter of James. In accord with this structure that organizes its oral performance, the words "worship to live by" express what the letter as a whole is exhorting its audience to adopt.

Dr. Joshua Benson Publishes Essay

Dr. Benson published an essay entitled, "Fons sapientiae Verbum Dei in excelsis.  John Pecham's Inaugural Sermon," Collectanea Franciscana 81:3-4 (2011), 451-478.  Benson argues that Dr. Benson argues that a previously unidentified inaugural sermon can be confidently linked to the Franciscan theologian John Pecham (d. 1292).  The article illuminates the text and its context, also shedding light on Aquinas's second regency at Paris.  Dr. Benson produced an edition of the sermon in a prior publication.

Msgr. Irwin Lectures at Providence College

On Thursday, April 12, Msgr. Kevin Irwin delivered the annual St. Catherine of Siena Lecture at Providence College.  The lecture was entitled "Sacrament Speak: The Many Languages of Christian Sacraments."  The lecture was sponsored by the College's Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies. In his opening remarks Msgr. Irwin paid tribute to the former Dean of CUA's School of Philosophy and former member  of the Providence College Board of Trustees Fr. Kurt Pritzl, O.P.

Rev. Nicholas Lombardo, O.P., Gives Presentation

Rev. Nicholas Lombardo, O.P., gave a lecture on "Boredom and Its Discontents" in New Haven, Connecticut on April 10 at Yale Divinity School. Drawing on a variety of literary sources and Aquinas's theory of the emotions, the lecture considered the phenomenology and structure of boredom, and then proposed ways to find relief from its modern manifestations.
