"From Italy to China: Matteo Ricci Priest, Missionary and Scholar" Lecture by Dr. Costantino Sigismondi

On Thursday, May 1 in Caldwell Auditorium, Dr. Costantino Sigismondi presented "From Italy to China: Matteo Ricci Priest, Missionary and Scholar." An astronomer, astrophysicist, and professor of physics at Galileo Ferraris Institute, Rome, Italy, he is currently a visiting researcher and teaching fellow at Brazil's National Observatory in Rio de Janeiro. Among his research interests are eclipses, planetary transits, meridian transits, meteor showers, and the history of astronomy. His publications in professional journals number more than 100. He founded the online international academic journal, Gerbertus (www.icra.it/gerbertus/), which deals with the history of medieval science. Sigismondi has participated in research projects in astrometry at La Sapienza in Rome, Yale University, the Astronomical Observatory of Rome, and institutions and universities in Italy, France, Korea, China, and Brazil. He has a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from La Sapienza-University of Rome and a Ph.D. in relativistic astrophysics from Nice University.
