Msgr. Stephen Rossetti Delivers Keynote Address at Irish Safeguarding Conference

On February 27th, Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti, clinical associate professor, delivered the keynote address to over 200 bishops, priests, sisters and lay child safeguarding delegates at the first national conference on safeguarding children. The event was sponsored by Ireland's National Board for Safeguarding in the Catholic Church. The event was held in Athlone, Ireland. Msgr Rossetti highlighted the important progress that has been made in the Church protecting minors in Ireland, the United States and beyond. He spoke of an emerging "template" of best practices in safeguarding children and urged that such a template be made mandatory in every country. He spoke of education as the key and stressed the need to prevent abuse before it occurs. He said, because of such efforts, the Catholic Church is "no longer a safe haven for child abusers."
