Light the World! is a chance for high school students to investigate, research, and explore how faith and culture interact with everyday activities. Participants witness faithful excellence in action in business, science, politics, sports, service and the arts through engaging presentations by CatholicU faculty, site visits throughout Washington D.C., and engaging with Catholic professionals.

Visiting sites such as the Capitol, National Gallery of Art, and D.C.'s professional baseball stadium and hearing from professionals who witness to faithful excellence in their fields, participants experience first hand that the Catholic faith can be vibrantly lived in the world. Light the World! has welcomed nearly 330 high schoolers to our campus in person and, in 2020 and 2021, welcomed over 40 to join us for virtual programs.

Through daily Mass, communal prayer such as Eucharistic Adoration with Praise and Worship Music, the Liturgy of the Hours, and the Rosary, faith sharing small groups, and the witness of the undergraduate staff, participants also grow in their spiritual lives. We are reminded each day that if we're not rooted in Christ, our intellectual and professional exploration will not bear good fruit!

Light the World! is also an opportunity for participants to experience a taste of college life while still in high school. Participants live in a dorm for the week with their peers, eat at the dining hall, engage with university faculty, staff, and students, and get a taste of the intellectual, social, and spiritual life that a university like Catholic University offers. Part of the follow-up even involves help with college application essays even if it is not our university. The summer institute will be facilitated by CatholicU's own undergraduate students who are faith-filled students in all areas discussed above.
